Deník N: The Green Deal is more important than ever, says the Decarbonising Automotive Transport conference
Our researcher Michal Hrubý attended the conference on Decarbonisation of Automotive Transport where he took part in the debate. We are on the threshold of a decision about the future of Czech car transport. Demand for electromobility is growing exponentially globally, as is the development of battery technology. In the future, these could become value-added products that will kick-start our economy and return the Czech Republic to a leading position in the investment environment. According to representatives of the European Parliament, the state administration, the automotive industry and independent experts on electromobility, it is now important for the Czech Republic to leave the scepticism of change behind and start educating and preparing for the decarbonisation of automotive transport. Not only for the environmental impact, but especially for the future competitiveness of the sector. This was stated in a debate at the Decarbonisation of Automotive Transport conference organised by EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy on Tuesday 1 March.

Náš výzkumný pracovník Michal Hrubý se zúčastnil konference o Dekarbonizaci automobilové dopravy. Stojíme na prahu rozhodnutí o budoucnosti české automobilové dopravy. Poptávka po elektromobilitě globálně skokově narůstá, podobně jako rozvoj technologií pro výrobu a využití baterií. Ty by se mohly v budoucnu stát produkty s přidanou hodnotou, které nastartují naši ekonomiku a vrátí Česko do čelných pozic v investičním prostředí. Podle zástupců Evropského parlamentu, státní správy, automobilového průmyslu a nezávislých expertů na elektromobilitu je nyní pro Českou republiku důležité opustit skepsi ze změn a začít se vzdělávat a připravovat na dekarbonizaci automobilové dopravy. Ať už kvůli vlivům na životní prostředí, ale zejména pro budoucí konkurenceschopnost odvětví. Uvedli to v debatě konference Dekarbonizace automobilové dopravy, kterou pořádal Institut pro evropskou politiku EUROPEUM v úterý 1. března.

Our researcher Jana Juzová commented for Euractiv on how Serbia's ambiguous position is affecting its EU accession process. Serbia is one of the few European countries, that has refused to join the anti-Russian sanctions, even though it has supported Ukraine's territorial integrity and promised to help refugees. The role taken by this Western Balkan country is not surprising, as it has been teetering between the EU and Russia for the last decade. In the accession process, according to our researcher, Serbia's current position towards Russia is not the biggest problem, as Serbia also faces other shortcomings for EU integration.

Naše výzkumnice Jana Juzová se vyjádřila pro portál Euractiv ohledně toho, jak nejednoznačná pozice Srbska ovlivňuje jeho přístupový proces do EU. Srbsko se jako jedna z mála evropských zemí odmítla přidat k protiruským sankcím, přestože podpořila územní celistvost Ukrajiny a přislíbila pomoc uprchlíkům. Roli, kterou zaujala tato západobalkánská země není překvapivá, protože již poslední dekádu balancuje mezi EU a Ruskem. V přístupovém procesu, dle naší výzkumnice, není aktuální pozice Srbska vůči Rusku největší problém, jelikož se Srbsko potýká také s dalšími nedostatky pro začlenění do EU.

Michal Hrubý, a research fellow from the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, has written a report on the development of the Czech automotive industry with regards to electromobility. In his research, he discusses its current state and possible decarbonisation in relation to transport emissions. The focus is mainly on the market for chargeable electric vehicles and two areas of interest - 1) decarbonisation of the transport sector and 2) maintaining the competitiveness of the Czech automotive industry.
