PRESS RELEASE: EUROPEUM has a new leadership. It will be led by experienced diplomat Zdeněk Beránek and Martin Vokálek

The EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy will be headed by a new director from October 1st. Zdeněk Beránek, who has worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as Deputy Ambassador in Washington, has been appointed the new Director. After seven years, he replaces Vladimír Bartovic, who has been with the Institute since 1999. Also, current Deputy Director Martin Vokálek will be in a new position as Executive Director.

Blesk: Epicentre: Zeman's outrageous insults of transgender people. And why hasn't the Czech Republic stood up for homosexuals?

The new Hungarian legislation has provoked a stormy reaction from the EU leadership. It bans education about sexual minorities in schools. However, the Czech Republic is one of the countries that has so far refused to join in the criticism of Hungary. In an interview with CNN Prima News on Sunday, President Miloš Zeman criticised women's political rights activists, the Me Too movement against sexual harassment and sexual minority events such as Prague Pride. His words that he finds transgender people "truly disgusting" have already gone around the world. Is the Czech Republic a progressive and liberal country, as Prime Minister Andrej Babiš claims? What are the implications of the condemnatory words of the head of state? These were the topics of Tuesday's Epicentre with Vladimír Bartovic, director of the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy.

The Transatlantic To-Do List: Biden's Progress Report

Last October, the third annual Transatlantic Policy Forum (TAPF) took place virtually. The Forum not only brought together a wide range of experts but provided inputs and interesting takeaways, including recommendations and a Transatlantic To-Do List, which outlined action points on how the US and the EU should approach the given challenges ranging from increased multilateral collaboration to further development of economic and security engagement. A little over 6 months into his administration, our EUROPEUM experts Danielle Piatkiewicz and Miroslava Pisklová have updated their Transatlantic To-Do List and their 100 day’s progress report to reflect on where Biden’s foreign policy stands now over a half a year into the new US administration.
