We would like to invite you to the Prague Climate Talks debate, organized by the Institute for European Policy EUROPEUM together with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Prague and under the auspices of the United Nations Czech Republic. The media partner of the project is Deník N. On Tuesday October 5th, we will focus on COP26: What can we expect? The event will take place from 17:00 to 18:30 online on our Facebook.

The debates will be organized by EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy. This series of debates aims to bring together experts, stakeholders, state officials and academia to discuss the most up – to date topics including the global actors as China and the United States. Over the course of 6 months, the most tempting issues will be on the table, such as growing influence of China, climate agenda, economic relations or the United States new administration.

In his policy paper, our research fellow Vít Havelka provides an overview of the current stage of preparations for the Czech Presidency and specifically elaborates on what topics the Czech Republic could choose as its priorities. Methodologically, the paper is divided into three separate parts, corresponding to three different levels of the program structure: political priorities, triadic priorities, and public service priorities.

The Think Visegrad platform, which brings together think tanks from the Visegrad countries, including the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, is offering 8 visiting fellowships to non-Visegrad expert fellows for the period Autumn/Winter of 2021. The duration of fellowships varies from 6 to 8 weeks (based on agreement with the hosting institute).

POLICY REPORT: The perspectives of the Czech automotive industry's decarbonization

Our Research Fellow Michal Hrubý examines the current state of the Czech automotive industry and its possible decarbonisation in connection with emissions. He divides his recommendations into five points - bolster green investments, financial incentives are the change-drivers, boost charging infrastructure, support the corporate BEVs fleet market and a ban on ICEVs is not the solution per se. The policy report was written within the project Decarbonisation of the automotive industry in the Czech Republic.

REPORT: Online Expert Exchange: Visegrad perspectives on the "Fit for 55" climate package

On May 20th 2021, Think Visegrad Platform organised a closed roundtable entitled “Visegrad perspectives on the "Fit for 55" climate package”. The meeting was conducted online and was held under the Chatham House rules. The debate focused on the Central and Eastern European countries’ perceptions of the EU 2030 climate targets, establishing at least 55% emissions cut compared to 1990 levels, and the challenges the V4 countries will face when implementing this new target.
