The key issues for the new term in the EU do not end with the European elections. Forces in European Parliament continue to shift depending on factions, while leaders select institutional leadership. How will the elections and the composition of the European Parliament influence the future functioning of the EU? And who will lead it? Viktor Daněk, Deputy Director of EUROPEUM Institute, answered these questions for Euractiv.cz.
The change in the composition of the European Parliament may not appear very significant at first glance. Its actual magnitude remains uncertain, as it heavily depends on ongoing negotiations. Generally, it was expected that the Parliament would undergo more transformation than it did. Currently, it leans more towards the right, but this may not have a significant impact on the final agenda of the European Commission if the current Commission President manages to maintain the current majority. This includes the EPP, S&D, and Renew Europe. If successful, the change may not be as substantial.
