National Convention on the EU: Strategic Compass

Tereza Novotná, Senior Associate Research Fellow, and Alexandra Visnerova, project manager, prepared a background paper on EU-Indo-Pacific relations from the perspective of the Czech Republic. How will the new geopolitical context resulting from the war in Ukraine affect the Indo-Pacific region, including relations with China, and how should the EU respond? Which other partners should the EU work with and which ones should the Czech Republic focus on as a priority during its EU Council Presidency? Which sectors within the European Indo-Pacific Strategy should the EU focus on most and which should the Czech Republic prioritise during its Presidency of the Council?

Decarbonization of the Czech automotive industry
After the successful delivery of last year’s project focused on the decarbonization of the Czech automotive industry, the climate team of EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy leads its second round. This time, the project aims to use already acquired knowledge, contacts and resources to help create a conducive environment for discussion between the representatives of the industry and the public sector. It will also contribute to our understanding of the decarbonization pathways through evidence-based research. Lastly, the project aims to raise social awareness about the challenges and opportunities presented by the transition of the automotive industry by organizing events and media briefings. This year’s project will be shaped by the Czech Presidency of the European Council in the second half of the year.

Policy Paper: EU’s Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising: Good Intentions but Clarifications and Amendments still Needed
A Policy Paper on transparency and targeting of political advertising in the EU was produced during a study visit to the Brussels office of Think Visegrad. The author of the paper, Karolína Klingová, focuses on the development of information technologies, including social media platforms with the possibility of micro-targeted campaigns, which have rapidly changed the concept of political communication and electoral campaigning.
