Our research collaborator Zuzana Stuchlíková commented on the issue of the Conference on the Future of Europe on the Europe Plus program.
For the first time, the idea of a joint Conference on the Future of Europe appeared before the 2019 European elections from Emanuel Macron, who essentially followed up on his idea of citizens' consultations. Following these elections, which were very successful in terms of turnout, Ursula von der Leyen incorporated the idea a project for he comission to intensify the European institutions' communication with citizens. (...) However, there is a certain risk that its results will be overlooked by EU leaders, as nowhere is it pre-defined how its outputs are to be treated.
