Tým Zelená Evropa Institutu pro evropskou politiku EUROPEUM představil v roce 2023 sérii workshopů zaměřených na komunikaci tématu zelené transformace s českou veřejností. Cílem je podpořit novináře a občanskou společnost v rozvoji veřejného diskurzu o klimatických změnách a klimatických politikách. Pražská klimatická akademie se v loňském roce zaměřila na udržitelnost v dopravě. Tématem prvního workshopu byla dekarbonizace automobilové dopravy v souvislosti s elektromobilitou. Druhý workshop se zaměřil na udržitelnost dopravy ve městě Praha. V roce 2024 navazujeme tématem adaptace města na změnu klimatu. Nabídneme sérii diskusí a workshopů s odborníky na adaptaci veřejného prostoru, modro-zelená opatření a veřejnou participaci.

Third year | Decarbonisation of the Czech automotive industry

The climate team of EUROPEUM is currently delivering the 3rd year of its project focused on the decarbonisation of the automotive industry in the Czech Republic. We want to build upon our experience and move this work forward with a more targeted approach. We will focus on three main areas, which we have identified as crucial parts of the puzzle for transitioning to cleaner modes of transport.

Kateřina Davidová and Tereza Novotná prepared a background paper for the Round Table of the National Convention on the EU on Reactions to the US Inflation Reduction Act. Three main questions are put to the Roundtable: What impact can the IRA have on Transatlantic relations and free trade in general, and how should the EU try to actively shape these relations? How can the EU ensure the competitiveness and strengthen the productivity of its industry in the future and promote the development of EU produced green technologies? How will the changes affect the Czech Republic directly and how should the Czech Republic proceed within the EU to avoid being left behind in the "green race"? Which specific climate-neutral (net-zero) industrial sectors should the Czech Republic focus on?

ČRo Plus: EU Parliament approves major part of climate package

At its meeting on Tuesday, the European Parliament approved key parts of the climate package, including the reform of the emissions trading scheme. The climate package aims to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Our Senior Research Fellow Kateřina Davidová explained the situation for ČRo Plus.

Relatively unnoticed, in August of last year, the Congress of the United States of America voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This decision may be one of the most important steps in the fight against climate change this decade. Inflation Reduction Act is a massive investment package that can fundamentally affect the current approach of Europe and other countries to green transformation. The transition to clean technologies, research, development, and production, can no longer be perceived purely as a question of reducing emissions, but also as a question of maintaining competitiveness on the global market. The green race has started and the Czech Republic should step up.
