Coal has been an important part of the Czech economy for decades. As a fossil fuel, however, it is a significant producer of greenhouse gases, especially CO2. Kateřina Davidová and Tereza Novotná prepared a background paper for the Round Table of the National Convention on the EU on Reactions to the US Inflation Reduction Act. Three main questions are put to the Roundtable: What impact can the IRA have on Transatlantic relations and free trade in general, and how should the EU try to actively shape these relations? How can the EU ensure the competitiveness and strengthen the productivity of its industry in the future and promote the development of EU produced green technologies? How will the changes affect the Czech Republic directly and how should the Czech Republic proceed within the EU to avoid being left behind in the "green race"? Which specific climate-neutral (net-zero) industrial sectors should the Czech Republic focus on?

Our researchers Vít Havelka, Kateřina Davidová and Danielle Piatkiewicz wrote a paper titled Review of the Czech EU Policy in 2020/2021.

Our researcher Kateřina Davidová contributed a chapter "The Middle Class as a Driver of Decarbonisation" to the Green Deal for Europe publication. The authors of this publication propose solutions that reflect Europe's economic and social reality and stress that the Green Deal debate must reflect the broader aspects of the whole issue.

On May 20th 2021, Think Visegrad Platform organised a closed roundtable entitled “Visegrad perspectives on the "Fit for 55" climate package”. The meeting was conducted online and was held under the Chatham House rules. The debate focused on the Central and Eastern European countries’ perceptions of the EU 2030 climate targets, establishing at least 55% emissions cut compared to 1990 levels, and the challenges the V4 countries will face when implementing this new target.
