European Commision has recommened the start of accession talks with more candidate countries and the topic of EU's enlargement is once more high on the priority list. In what time horizon will these countries be able to become full members? And will it be even possible to bring new states to the table before full-scale reforms that could change the EU we know today? The director of our Brussels office Žiga Faktor has commented on the issue in an interview with RTVS.

Žiga Faktor, director of the EUROPEUM Institute's Brussels office, commented for Czech Radio Plus on a proposal for a radical reform of the functioning of the European Union, which would have to be approved by all member states. Among the changes mentioned would be, for example, the renaming of the European Commission.

Against all odds, the EU is sticking to its goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. The next step is a major reform of emission allowances, tentatively agreed by EU Council and European Parliament negotiators just before Christmas. Emissions trading (ETS) will also apply to buildings and road transport from 2027. Our Senior Researcher Kateřina Davidová commented on this issue for iDNES.
