Together with the Austrian Society for European Politics, the Center for European Neighborhood Studies at the Central European University Budapest, the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana and GLOBSEC Policy Institute in Bratislava we jointly launched a project with the goal to examine why political and societal actors resort to an “anti-European” rhetoric. The final report from the project is now available.

An extensive research of public opinion in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia showed, that a considerable portion of Central Europeans believe, that the EU is treating them unfairly. Still, the wish to remain, and want strong leaders and a homogenous society.

The migration crisis has been and still is a dominant issue within European politics. The European solution based on the solidarity principle was the refugee redistribution quota. In opposing to this plan, the V4 became a symbol of non-solidarity in Europe.
