Our researcher Michal Hrubý wrote an article on ESG and natural gas for the magazine EkonTech.cz. He comments on the current development of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), including the role of taxonomy and natural gas as a basic commodity for industry and households.

European Union countries are facing a period of gas consumption cuts. Although the proposal agreed by Member States aims for a voluntary reduction of 15% in consumption in the coming months compared to the average of the past five years, the pressure for even greater savings will grow. And not only in natural gas consumption, but also in electricity. Our researcher Michal Hrubý has written an overview of gas and its use in the Czech Republic, in which he highlights the need for savings to help us get through this year's heating season and answers several questions related to gas consumption. Where does the Czech Republic stand on gas? What are our supplies and where to get new capacity? And how can we save for next winter? These questions are also answered in the review. Our researcher Michal Hrubý was a guest on the podcast Stačí málo, presented by Generali Česká pojišt'ovna. He answered questions about the energy sector and the energy crisis. In the podcast you will learn, among other things, how to manage energy efficiently in households and what mistakes to avoid if you want to save money on energy.

The German government plans to finance so-called price brakes, which are similar to the Czech price caps for consumers. The fundamental difference of the price brake in Germany is that it will also apply to large industrial enterprises. Our researcher Michal Hrubý commented on the situation.

On Thursday 8 September 2022, a briefing was held under the leadership of the European Climate Foundation and with the support of EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, entitled: "Do we have enough minerals and metals to achieve energy transition and electromobility?". The briefing also produced a short background study on Minerals and Metals for Energy Transition.

Our research fellow Michal Hrubý appeared on CNN Prima NEWS on the topic of EU cost saving measures. The EU proposes, for example, joint gas purchases or avoiding extreme price fluctuations.

In an article for Reflex, Michal Hrubý, our researcher and energy expert, commented on the so-called Iberian Way, which is being followed by Portugal and Spain in the field of energy. By capping gas prices, both countries have managed to achieve that - in simple terms - an extremely high gas price does not affect the price of electricity. However, there are pitfalls to this, which our expert has just commented on.

In an article by the Czech News Agency (ČTK), two of our experts - Kateřina Davidová and Jana Juzová - comment on the speech of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Davidová evaluated mainly the content of the speech concerning energy, while Juzová focused on the issue of strengthening democracy on the European continent and the EU's enlargement towards the Western Balkans.

The energy transition and decarbonisation of transport require minerals and metals, the extraction of which is mainly controlled by China. Clean energy technologies are much more material intensive, but Europe has limited access to these raw materials. Our researcher , Michal Hrubý, provided Ekonews with a commentary on the topic of clean energy and minerals.
