We invite you to the EU± debate, this time on whether the V4 is the most important ally of the Czech Republic. The debate is organised with the support of the Jean Monnet Chair TeDEUSS - Teaching and debating EU small states' security at FSV UK and co-funded by the European Union's Europe for Citizens programme.

We bring you a summary and recommendations resulting from the roundtable discussion of the National Convention on the EU held on 1 October 2021. The recommendations were prepared by Zuzana Kasáková.

In her blog article, our intern Agathe Helluin focuses on Czech politics, particularly on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and his style of political campaigning, which includes topics such as migration.

Our research fellow Vít Havelka commented on the current situation about the Russian embassy in Prague. In connection with the ongoing Vrbětice affair, which has resulted in a reduction in the number of diplomats. He refers to the implications this may have for Russian tourists in the future.

In an article for Info.cz, Vít Havelka writes about why Denmark is better at vaccinating the population than the Czech Republic.

Last year showed that the Czech Republic is able to effectively promote its interests at the European level, provided that it clearly defines its goals. However, it continues to resign itself to influencing major pan-European debates and focus only on partial national goals. Danielle Piatkiewicz commented on what awaits Czechia in 2021 for the Balkan Insight.

On December 15, the very last debate of 2020 from the series EU± took place. The debate was organized by the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy and the Department of European Studies of FSV UK. The topic of „Portuguese and Czech Presidency of the EU Council” was discussed by Ambassador of Portugal to the Czech Republic Luís de Almeida Sampaio, our Associate Research Fellow Zuzana Stuchlíková and former Permanent Representative to the EU Milena Vicenová. The debate took place in English and was charied by Tomáš Weiss, researcher, and head of the Department of European Studies FSV UK.

Vít Havelka presents a review of the Czech EU Policy in the last year. He focused on EU Top Jobs, Single Market & Economic policies, Justice and Home Affairs and Foreign and Defence Policy.

We present you with a report of an online roundtable organised by EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, Centre for Transport and Energy and Globsec, and in cooperation with the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU on 12 November 2020.

At the very end of September, the European Commission introduced a new pact on migration and asylum. It is a complex package of measures which responds to events of 2015 and 2016 and to the fact that there has been a very little progress made in regard of the migration and asylum policy reform. What exactly does the Commission’s new proposal contain? Will new migration quotas be introduced? Which measures will Czechia like the most and which of them will we criticize again? Our dear guests will answer not only these question during the next debate from series EU± on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 PM.
