21. November 2016

Our fellow researcher Michal Vít talked on RTVS about the possible candidacy of Angela Merkel in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Germany. Her candidacy has been under speculations for a longer time, however, Merkel herself has not yet announced the candidacy. Her closest colleagues admit that the past events (financial crisis, Brexit, migration crisis...) have been extremely exhausting to her. A new leader is, nonetheless, not expected to appear on the German political scene and continuing career in high politics only appears to be a logical step for Angela Merkel.

In the case of CDU, during Merkel's governance, the CDU was able to clean out the political center and was able to attract social democratic voters and partially green party and liberal voters. This way, she opened the floor for the creation of a new party alongside with the CDU.
