Radio Z: Hundreds of Middle Eastern migrants detained in Germany near the border with Poland in recent days, they entered the EU via Belarus
Host: Can it be expected that it will only be a formal meeting of MEPs, is there any space or tool at all to contribute to resolving the situation?
Martin Vokálek: The topic of Belarus in the current negotiations is not one of the most important main topics that the European Parliament would discuss, but that topic is still important. About some instruments, I might expect that the European Parliament may recommend to the Council of the EU some intensification of the sanctions against Belarus and, possibly, some strengthening of border protection between Poland and Belarus. Yesterday, at the border, the director of Frontex met with a representative of the Polish Ministry of the Interior to discuss border control and agreed that it is relatively well secured, but the situation is, of course, still tense.
