Nouvelobs.com: Hungary: what can Brussels do against Viktor Orbán?

Martin Michelot gives his opinion for Nouvelobs.com, on how the European Union could counter Viktor Orbán's efforts.

To uphold the rule of law in Hungary, blackmail could be an effective deterrent. But the effects would not be immediate. Some, such as our Martin Michelot,  would prefer a freeze on CAP funds. 

The settlement of disputes  comes from independent bodies such as the European Court of Justice, which should take up the question of the rule of law and the proper use of European funds.

In Hungary and Poland, we may have already gone too far to repair some of the abuses that have been committed, but we must try to correct the mistakes of the European construction to prevent future attacks on the rule of law

[there is a need to] prevent other countries, such as the Czech Republic and Slovakia, from following the example of their Visegrad group comrades, notably by strengthening European programs to support civil society
