Many of Václav Havel's ideas from his speeches remain valid many years after the former Czech president delivered them on EU soil. Václav Havel's most famous European speech, which took Europe as a task as its motto for the Czech Presidency, did not originate in the European Parliament. It was delivered in Aachen in 1996 at the presentation of the Charlemagne Prize.
