ČT24 | South Korean president surprises the country with martial law

President Yoon Suk-yeol has declared martial law in South Korea. Is this a purely domestic political issue? What does this mean for the country in the future? Tereza Novotná, an Associate Research Fellow at EUROPEUM Institute, commented for ČT24.

It was purely an internal political struggle in the country. Although the episode may damage South Korea's name in the world, on the other hand, looking at how quickly the situation has calmed down and how quickly the constitutional means are being followed, it confirms that South Korea is a developed democracy and has the necessary safeguards to maintain a functioning system.
