ČT24 | Jozef Síkela succeeded before members of the European Parliament

The Czech candidate for EU Commissioner Jozef Síkela succeeded in the so-called grilling before MEPs, which every nominated member of the EU executive must pass. He has won the support of a two-thirds majority of DEVE to become Commissioner for International Partnerships. The former trade and industry minister wants to strengthen partnerships with Africa and Latin America and intends to tackle the drivers of illegal migration. Viktor Daněk, deputy director at EUROPEUM Institute, commented for ČT24.

This is something to be expected and can be called a success. It was honestly not expected that Jozef Síkela would be one of the candidates who would have difficulty passing the grilling. It was clear that he had prepared himself properly over the last months, had no difficulty in getting to grips with the agendas and was able to answer most of the questions off the top of his head, drawing on many statistics and figures.
