ČRo Plus | The European Union and Mercosur have concluded a free trade agreement. Parts of the European Union don't like it

The countries of the European Union are at odds over the free trade agreement with Mercosur. Some member states are in favour, some against. Viktor Daněk, deputy director of EUROPEUM Institute, commented for ČRo Plus.

It is a matter of dividing who has the stronger voice in which country. It is no coincidence that it is the countries where the agricultural sector is more concerned that are most vocally opposed, because opening up the market in South America means more competition for domestic producers. It is also France, Italy and Poland that are opposed. However, the European Union as such has always stood for market opening and liberalisation.
