ČRo Plus | Belgian Presidency

Belgium takes over the EU Presidency from the Spanish. What challenges does Belgium face in this role and how does it plan to achieve its objectives? Viktor Daněk, Deputy Director of EUROPEUM Institute, explains.

It will be an extremely difficult task for Belgium, in cooperation with the head of the European Council, to draw up a multiannual budget that includes financial aid to Ukraine, mainly because of Hungary's obstruction. However, the Belgian Presidency will be able to play a major role behind the scenes. But it seems that Plan B is slowly becoming Plan A, i.e. bypassing Hungary and agreeing outside the EU framework on joint loans to Ukraine.
