INVITATION: Sovereignty and the European Union - what challenges going forward?
The notion of sovereignty has been at the heart of the debates about the European Union in 2017, and especially at the heart of tensions between some Visegrad Four states and Brussels. The decision to trigger Article 7 against Poland, in late December 2017, represents another rung on the ladder of heated discussions about the balance between sovereignty and obligations of EU membership, and seems to have triggered even further divisions between the East and West. How will these tensions influence the future of European integration? What does the notion of sovereignty mean in 2018, and can we foresee circumstances in which sovereignty and integration go hand-in-hand? How does history influence the perception that each state has of the meaning of its sovereignty?
The debate will be held on January 30th, 2018 at 16:00 in European House (Evropský dům, Jungmannova 24, Prague 1).
