INVITATION: Prague Climate Talks — USA back in business: what to expect from US climate policy?

We would like to invite you to this year's first Prague Climate Talks, focusing on high-level discussions on the complex issue of climate change. The debate is organised by the Institute for European Policy EUROPEUM together with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Prague under the auspices of the UN Czech Republic. The media partner of the project is Deník N. On Thursday, April 29, we will focus on climate changes in the US after the election of President Joe Biden. The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 pm online on our Facebook.
13. April 2021

One of the first moves of Joe Biden upon his inauguration in January 2021 was to officially bring the United States back among the signatories of the Paris Agreement. He has also announced a plan to get the US on track to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and to fully decarbonize the country’s power sector by 2035. These goals are accompanied by an unprecedented climate investment plan of $2 trillion.

With the world’s second largest emitter back in business, what geopolitical implications can we expect? What impact will it have on EU’s climate and foreign policy? Will other major economies such as Russia or China follow suit?

The questions will be answered by:

  • Katharine Klačanský, Research Fellow, EUROPEUM
  • Michal Broža, Acting Director, UN Czech Republic
  • Martin Jirušek, Assistant Professor, Masaryk University in Brno

The debate will be hosted by Jana Ciglerová, a journalist for Deník N.

The event is available in Czech on Facebook. The debate will be held in the Czech language only.
