The discussion will examine the various forms of malign foreign influence that shape and impact political processes and public opinions in the regions, specifically in regard to the war in Ukraine and the new challenges it raised. Furthermore, the session will discuss the important role of media and civil society in countering disinformation and the need to build trust and establish tools and strategies that protect vulnerable populations, supporting digital literacy in the region.
How have countries in the Central and Eastern Europe region navigated the onslaught of disinformation tactics coming from both domestic and foreign actors? How can we look at the CEE region with the information war being fought so close?
What is the role of the EU as a normative power – how can legislation such as the Action plan on Disinformation, 2022 Code of Practice on Disinformation, European Media Freedom Act, and other initiatives support the fight against disinformation campaigns? And what is the role of transatlantic relations in this regard? How can the EU continue to set rules and standards?
