INVITATION | Defending our Democratic Norms: Strengthening Transatlantic Relations in Times of Conflict

We would like to invite you to the debate called "Defending our Democratic Norms: Strengthening Transatlantic Relations in Times of Conflict". The debate will take place on November 23 at the American Center at 10:00 am. The language of the debate will be English.

Over the last decade, the Transatlantic relationship has faced many trials and tribulations, often questioning the strength and resilience of the alliance. From internal and external threats seeking to undermine the democratic values that bind the allies, the alliance has found resolve and purpose in light of the invasion of Ukraine.

However, will this newfound purpose be enough, especially with emerging security threats from Russia and China?
As geopolitical challenges and global tensions rise, can the Transatlantic relationship’s shared values and commitment to democracy continue to strengthen relations?

How will President Biden’s Summit for Democracy - planned for the first quarter of 2023 - hold countries accountable for their commitments to democracy? This session will discuss the latest developments in US-EU relations, especially after the US Midterms, and discuss how to ensure relations remain strong as 2023 approaches.
