RTVS: Angela Merkel re-elected as a CDU leader

For the Slovak television RTVS, our Research Fellow Michal Vít commented on the results of the vote about the leader of the strongest German political party, Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

Yesterday, in the city of Essen, western Germany, the election congress of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) took place. The congress voted on the party leader prior to the next year both presidential and parliamentary elections. Angela Merkel, backed by almost 90 percent of votes, secured the victory and become the CDU leader once again.

Current chancellor in her speech put emphasise on the necessity of learning from the mistakes of the past as far as the migration and asylum policies are concerned and possible banning of burkas and niqabs in the public spaces.
