TN Live | European Council discusses Ukraine. In the event of a disagreement, it may form a coalition outside, says an expert

The leaders of the 27 EU countries met in Brussels on Thursday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also present. The topics were aid to Ukraine and the defence of Europe. Martin Vokálek, executive director of the EUROPEUM Institute, discussed the topic.

Member States may differ on how to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, or on the approach to the United States of America, which is no longer our closest partner because it has become very erratic and transatlantic relations between Europe and the US are going through a very difficult period.

There may also be disagreement between Member States on what the strengthening of defence will look like, whether Member States will be willing to increase defence spending, to what extent they will increase it, and how the European Commission's proposal to re-strengthen European defence will be used.
