Our research fellow Michal Vít commented in an interview for Hospodářské noviny on the situation of the migration crisis following his trip on the Balkan route.

They all come thanks to the smugglers. It's a highly organized structure with connections reaching the highest political spheres.

According to organizations working with migrants, approximately 100 people arrive to Serbia everyday. The same goes for Macedonia. Most of the time, these people come from Noth Africa or Pakistan, which grants them zero chance of getting asylum.

The easiest way is to continue paying Serbia. It's simple: if we pay, stability will prevail. If not, who knows what will happen. Of course, it would be ideal to just consider asylum requests and effectively return those, who do not have the rights, to countries of origin. However, that is not realistic: if the Germans and the Swedes are not able to do that, we could hardly want something like that from the Serbs and Macedonians.
