IEMED | Serbia: The Dilemma between European Accession and Alliance with Russia
With Ukraine’s defence against Russia heading toward a stalemate in the second half of the year and increased pressure inside the EU to deliver on its promises to provide the country with needed financial and military support, Serbia’s ambiguous relationship with Russia and the West has been brought increasingly into the spotlight in 2023. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), ruling since 2012, and President Aleksandar Vučić have been responsible for continued democratic backsliding and have failed to align with the Union’s foreign policy during Serbia’s lengthy EU accession process, pushing the situation closer towards a tipping point in Serbia-EU relations. RTVS: Ship with 750 people wrecked near Peloponnese, Greece detains its captain
At least 78 people died in the sinking of the ship off the Peloponnese peninsula and hundreds more are missing. Nine people of Egyptian nationality have been detained in Greece in connection with the sinking. They are suspected of people smuggling and face 20 years behind bars. Christian Kvorning Lassen, head of research at the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, also commented on migration within the Mediterranean for RTVS.

Studio ČT24: Abolishing the anti-coronavirus measures in Italy
Our Associate Research, Alexandr Lagazzi, gave an interview to ČT24 on the end of COVID passports in Italy. The liberalization that is now coming to the Mediterranean has not escaped Italy. During the interview, Alexandr Lagazzi mentioned the COVID measures that still apply and also those that are already being abolished. In addition to the measures concerning covid passports, the restrictions on respirators were also mentioned at the interview.
