ČT24 | The balance of power in the newly elected European Parliament

The European Parliament has many negotiations ahead of it, be it the distribution of political parties in the political groups, the filling of key positions or the names of the new European Commissioners. What is the most interesting thing to watch on the European stage right now? What other moments will now influence the development of European politics? Vít Havelka, research fellow at EUROPEUM Institute, comments for ČT24.

From the point of view of European politics, it is interesting to see the haggling over which parties would join one or another party. For example, the possible re-entry of the German AfD into the Identitiy & Democracy party, which is essentially led by Marine Le Pen. As far as national politics is concerned, the most important are the French national elections, which can potentially catapult Emmanuel Macron into a role with a good and stable democratic mandate, or, on the contrary, can make him into imaginary duck that will not have much political power.
