INVITATION | Pacific Talks: Security Challenges for the Pacific, EU and Russia

We would like to invite you to a debate called "Security Challenges for the Pacific, EU and Russia " in the EU-PACIFIC Talks series. The debate will take place online on Friday, December 2 at 11:30.

The ongoing war in Ukraine has created geopolitical shifts in the EU’s security focus. While conflict on Europe’s borders wages and increased tensions with Russia rages on, security challenges around the world will continue. While the US and EU work on securing Europe’s borders, intensified tension in the Pacific could re-shift the EU and US security focus. We see that the challenges the region faces go well beyond traditional security threats, as we see other key issues such as maritime security, connectivity, digital and cybersecurity, the fight against climate change, and energy transition among a list of issues at stake. As the world shifts its view towards Ukraine, it is imperative that the EU keep a vigilant eye on the Indo-Pacific to strengthen the regions shifting balance of power.

Speakers:

  • Alexandr Burilkov, Associate, German Institute for GLobal and Area Studies
  • Benedetta Girardi, Strategic Analyst, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies
